Six blocks of restored and relocated 19th-century buildings — log cabins, a corner grocery, a one-room schoolhouse, an African-American church, a doctor's office, several homes — assembled into a walkable open-air history museum just north of downtown. Costumed interpreters demonstrate weaving, blacksmithing, and other period skills.
It's the most family-friendly stop in central Montgomery and a useful way to see how ordinary Alabamans lived in the 19th century, away from the capital-and-cotton headline narrative. Allow ninety minutes to two hours.
