Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve

Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve protects one of the largest concentrations of Native American petroglyphs in the Phoenix area. A short desert trail leads past boulders carved with hundreds of symbols at the base of Hedgpeth Hills.

Start at the small visitor center, where the exhibits explain what is known about the carvings and the people who made them. Go early or late in the day if visiting in warm weather, since shade is limited outside.
