This small, free museum on the ground floor of the Wells Fargo bank tower on Adams Street is a pleasant half-hour stop if you happen to be in downtown Phoenix. The centrepiece is an original nineteenth-century Concord stagecoach — restored, complete with leather thoroughbraces, exactly the sort that rumbled across Arizona before the railroad. Around it the displays cover the routes, the express agents, and the famous Wells Fargo strongbox.
The collection includes pioneer-era nuggets and bars of gold, a working telegraph children can tap, and small artefacts from Arizona's mining towns. It's the kind of museum that does not require commitment — drop in for thirty minutes when you're walking between Heritage Square and the Symphony Hall. Closed weekends.
