Arkansas's current state capitol sits on a hill at the western end of Capitol Avenue and is one of the more handsome capitol buildings in the South. Completed in 1915, it is modelled closely on the US Capitol in Washington, with a central dome, two wings, and a grand south-facing portico.
The interior is open for free self-guided tours. The rotunda is particularly impressive, with marble floors from Vermont and Italy and a dome painted to depict Arkansas history. The grounds include a small collection of Civil War monuments and a replica of the Liberty Bell.
Free admission. Guided tours available on weekdays. 500 Woodlane St.
