Healer Stones of Kapaemahu

Ancient stones on Waikiki Beach embodying four healing sorcerers from Tahiti

The four Healer Stones sit in a small enclosure on Kuhio Beach in Waikiki. According to Hawaiian tradition, four sorcerers of extraordinary healing power arrived from Tahiti and lived in Waikiki for some years, curing the sick through supernatural means. Before departing, they transferred their powers into four large boulders placed on the beach as healing shrines.

The stones were buried under a roadway in the early 20th century and rediscovered during construction work in 1905. They are easy to walk past without noticing, but worth a few minutes: genuine pre-contact objects with a real place in Hawaiian tradition, sitting surrounded by beach volleyball nets and tourist hotels. Found on Kuhio Beach Park, walking east from Duke's statue.
