12 South is a five-block walkable strip on 12th Avenue South, about three miles south of downtown — a single line of independent shops, cafes, and small restaurants in restored bungalows and shopfronts. The neighbourhood was the focus of an early gentrification wave in the 2000s and is now one of the city's most photographed strips.
Notable: Bartaco for taco-and-cocktails lunches, Five Daughters Bakery for the cult 100-layer donut, Reese Witherspoon's Draper James clothing store, the I Believe in Nashville mural on the wall behind the Walgreens parking lot, and Sevier Park at the south end of the strip for a green-space sit-down. The strip closes early; plan it as a daytime visit rather than an evening one.
