The Gulch is the densest pocket of new-build in Nashville — a polished, mid-rise neighbourhood of glass-and-brick apartment towers, hotels, cocktail bars, boutique retail, and upmarket restaurants on what was, until the 1990s, a rail yard and warehouse district south-west of downtown. It is also the first LEED-certified neighbourhood in the South.
The pedestrian focus is the section of 11th and 12th Avenues South near the Frist Art Museum. Whiskey Kitchen, The Pub, Adele's, and Husk Nashville are local fixtures. The Yazoo Brewing taproom is a useful lunch stop. The well-known "What Lifts You" wings mural on the side of 302 11th Avenue South is the city's most-photographed Instagram backdrop, and the queue to pose under it is no joke.
