RCA's Studio B on Music Row was where the modern Nashville Sound was invented — and where Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, the Everly Brothers, Willie Nelson, Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins, and dozens more recorded between 1957 and 1977. The plain brick building looks deliberately modest, in keeping with the bunker-like recording rooms inside; the studio has been preserved more or less as it was when the last session was cut.
Tours are run from the Country Music Hall of Fame downtown — a shuttle bus delivers visitors to Music Row, a guide walks you through the studio (you stand on the spot where Elvis sang), and the bus takes you back. Tickets are included with most Hall of Fame combo passes. Allow ninety minutes round-trip; the visit is short but intense.
