Midway Geyser Basin is one of Yellowstone's essential thermal areas, compact but spectacular. Boardwalks lead past the huge crater of Excelsior Geyser and the bright runoff channels that drain toward the Firehole River, while Grand Prismatic Spring gives the basin its famous sweep of colour and steam.
