Yellowstone Lake

Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake in North America, spread across the park's southeast at more than 7,000 feet above sea level. It is about 20 miles long, 15 miles wide, and bordered by forest, thermal areas, and long cold horizons.

The lake is frozen for much of the year, usually thawing in late spring. In summer, stop at pullouts around the shore for open views, birdlife, and a quieter sense of Yellowstone than the geyser basins provide.
