The wide avenue that connects the city centre with the harbour, about a 25-minute walk or a five-minute taxi ride downhill. Avenida El Sol is not a tourist sight in itself but is the obvious walking route between the two halves of Puno's centre — central restaurants and hotels at the top, the lake and the boats at the bottom.
The lower end of the avenue runs past the docks where the Yavari steamship and small commercial boats are moored. There are a couple of lakeside parks and a malecón (promenade) where local families come on Sunday afternoons. A pleasant walk if the wind is down; otherwise take a mototaxi.
