The best view of Puno and the lake, from a hilltop directly above the city centre. A huge stone condor — the Kuntur Wasi, "house of the condor" — stands at the top, looking out over the harbour, the red-roofed city, and the long curve of Lake Titicaca beyond. On a clear day you can see the snow-capped peaks of Bolivia far to the east.
Reach it by climbing the long cobbled staircase from Jirón Bolognesi (around 20 to 30 minutes at altitude — pace yourself), or by a short taxi ride if your lungs are not yet acclimatised. Try to come for sunset; the light on the lake turns gold and the city below comes alive as evening sets in. Cold and windy at the top — bring a jumper.
