Anwar Mosque is the main mosque of Addis Ababa and the spiritual anchor of the Mercato area. Its arcaded facade and minarets stand out sharply against the traffic, shopfronts, and market lanes around it.
The mosque is best appreciated as part of a wider walk through Mercato, where Muslim traders, spice shops, tailors, and bus stands crowd together. Non-Muslim visitors should be discreet, avoid prayer times unless invited, and dress conservatively.
