Medhane Alem Cathedral is one of Addis Ababa's most important Ethiopian Orthodox churches and a landmark of the Bole district. Its white arcades, domes, and broad forecourt make it easy to spot, and on feast days the church becomes a dense scene of white shawls, chanting, incense, and worshippers circling the compound.
It is not as historically resonant as Holy Trinity Cathedral, but it shows the living rhythm of Orthodox Addis in a very accessible part of town. Dress modestly, keep a respectful distance during services, and look for the small details: painted saints, processional umbrellas, and the way the church compound becomes a social space after prayer.
