Morocco was the first country to recognise the United States in 1776, and this building, purchased in 1821, is the oldest American diplomatic property abroad. Now a museum, it houses documents tracing Moroccan-American relations, rotating art exhibitions, and a research library. The building itself is a fine example of Moorish architecture tucked into the medina walls.
