Fen River Wetland Park

The Fen River Wetland Park in the southern part of Taiyuan is a large riverside park developed from formerly degraded industrial land along the river, incorporating restored wetland habitats, walking and cycling paths, and a series of lakes and reed beds. The park is evidence of the environmental recovery the Fen River has undergone in the last fifteen years — from a heavily polluted industrial waterway to a corridor that now supports waterbirds and wetland vegetation through the city.

In spring and autumn migration seasons, the park is worth a visit for birdwatching — grey herons, egrets, several species of duck, and occasional rarer migrants use the wetland sections. The cycling paths are well-maintained and connect to the main river embankment walk further north. Early morning is the quietest and most interesting time.
