Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing

Excellent museum on the history and technique of Rajasthan's block-printing tradition

Address Kheri Gate, Amer, Jaipur
Opening Hours 10:00-17:00 (closed Sundays and Mondays)

The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing, housed in a restored haveli in old Amer town, is one of the more thoughtfully curated small museums in Rajasthan. It traces the history and geography of block printing — the carving of wooden blocks, the preparation of vegetable dyes, the stamping process, and the social role of the printing communities (mostly from the Chhipa caste).

Displays include historical examples of block-printed fabrics, original printing blocks (some centuries old), and documentation of the trade routes that spread Rajasthani textiles across the world. The museum is run by the Anokhi brand, so there's a quality-control agenda, but it doesn't detract from the educational value.

There's a shop attached selling high-quality printed fabrics and finished products. Combined with a visit to Amber Fort (2 km away), this makes for a rounded day in the Amer area. Admission is modest.
