A small mangrove island in the Barito River about 1.5km from the city centre, Kembang is home to a large population of long-tailed macaques and a few proboscis monkeys. Visitors reach it by motorboat or klotok; the crossing takes only a few minutes. The island has a small Chinese temple and makes for a pleasant stop on a river tour. The macaques are bold and accustomed to people, so keep food in a bag and cameras close.
