The Kuin floating market — the original Pasar Terapung — sits on the Barito River at the mouth of the Kuin tributary, a short boat ride upstream from central Banjarmasin. It is smaller and quieter than Lok Baintan, but more easily combined with the Sultan Suriansyah Mosque and the river islands.
The trading day is short — from before dawn until about seven o'clock — and the market has shrunk over the years as roads have replaced the river for everyday transport. It is still picturesque, particularly in low season, and the river setting and the morning light remain memorable. Boats can be hired at Jalan Pos or directly at the Banjar Raya jetty in the Kuin neighbourhood.
