Loksado, in the Meratus mountains 150 km east of Banjarmasin, is the centre for the classic Banjarese day-trip: bamboo rafting down the Amandit River through the Dayak heartland. The journey takes four to five hours and runs through gentle rapids, jungle gorges, and a string of small Meratus Dayak villages.
The trip is usually arranged as a two- or three-day package from Banjarmasin, including a night in a Dayak balai (longhouse) and a morning hike to a waterfall. The full Loksado-to-Muara Hatip raft is the longest standard option; shorter half-day versions begin further downstream. Wear quick-drying clothes and bring a dry-bag for valuables.
