Al-Quds Restaurant

Al-Quds is one of the oldest restaurants in downtown Amman, a Palestinian-origin institution that has been feeding the downtown crowd with ful, hummus, mutabbal, and grilled meats since the city's early decades. The name — "Jerusalem" in Arabic — reflects the Palestinian heritage of its founders and the aspirations of a displaced community that built much of modern Amman.

The cooking is straightforward Levantine food done consistently well at very low prices. It is a local institution in the fullest sense — a place where the taxi driver eats the same food as the university professor and the lawyer, all on the same plastic chairs. Go for breakfast or a cheap lunch.
