Kan Zaman

Kan Zaman — "once upon a time" in Arabic — is a cultural restaurant and craft village complex about 9 kilometres south of central Amman, built into a converted 19th-century Ottoman-era caravanserai and surrounding buildings. The complex houses several restaurants serving traditional Jordanian food (mansaf, mezze, grilled meats) in a setting of restored stone vaults and open courtyards, alongside craft shops, a small museum of Jordanian heritage items, and a schedule of live traditional music.

It is unabashedly aimed at visitors and can feel like a managed experience, but the setting is genuinely beautiful and the food is consistently good. The mansaf here is made in the traditional way over an open fire. Best visited for lunch, when it is less hectic than the evening dinner-and-entertainment package.
