Kyrgyz National Philharmonic

Address Chuy Avenue 253, Bishkek

A Brutalist concert hall complex built in 1980, fronted by a sweeping concrete portico and topped with a tall stylised komuz (a three-stringed Kyrgyz lute). The building is one of the more impressive late-Soviet pieces of architecture in the city and still functions as the country's main classical music venue, with regular concerts by the philharmonic orchestra and visiting soloists.

Tickets are inexpensive by international standards and easy to buy at the box office on the day. The programme leans towards Russian and Kyrgyz repertoire but Western composers feature regularly.
