The plaza in front of Quiapo Church has long been Manila's great public square — a stage for political rallies and a permanent open-air bazaar. Vendors sell religious figurines and candles alongside the folk-medicine herbs and amulets the district is famous for, while fortune-tellers read palms under umbrellas. The crowd never really thins.
