Shida Night Market

Student night market beside National Taiwan Normal University

Address Shida Road, Daan District, Taipei

Shida Night Market grew up around National Taiwan Normal University (Shida), and keeps a younger, more bohemian feel than the big tourist markets — clothes and accessories aimed at students, plus a dense run of cheap eats. It was once one of the largest food markets in the city; a residents' campaign in the 2010s pushed much of the cooked-food trade out of the residential lanes, so it is now smaller and tamer than it was.

What remains is still a good evening's grazing: stinky tofu, scallion pancakes, Hong Kong-style snacks, bubble tea, and a cluster of small bars and cafes catering to the university crowd. Easiest reached from Taipower Building metro station.
