A small, perpetually-packed café in a converted shopfront on Goulburn Street, fifteen minutes' walk uphill from the CBD. Pigeon Hole has the most reliable breakfast and lunch in Hobart — proper coffee (their own roast), sourdough from the in-house Pigeon Whole Bakers next door, exemplary scrambled eggs, bowls of grain and roast vegetable, and a daily blackboard of more elaborate brunch dishes.
Expect to queue at weekends. The covered courtyard seating is the best option in summer. Pigeon Whole Bakers next door sells the bread to take home; their sourdough miche is the best loaf in Tasmania.
