Renaissance castle on Innsbruck's southern outskirts, converted from a medieval fortress by Archduke Ferdinand II in the 16th century to house his collections. The Spanish Hall is one of the finest freestanding Renaissance halls in Central Europe. The collections include Europe's oldest cabinet of curiosities, an extensive armoury, and a portrait gallery with some 250 works spanning the 14th to 19th centuries. The surrounding English-style gardens are free to enter and worth a visit on their own.
