The Tyrol Panorama Museum is built around a huge circular painting of the 1809 Battle of Bergisel, when Tyrolean rebels fought Bavarian and French forces. The panorama is theatrical, patriotic, and very revealing about how the region tells its own story.
The museum works best with the Bergisel setting, where mountain views and history overlap. It is a useful stop if Innsbruck has started to feel like only an old town and ski-gateway city; here, Tyrolean identity is the main exhibit.
