The Philharmonic Hall, in cream stucco with a deep Italianate portico, was built in 1912 by the architect Gavriil Termikelov and modelled on the Monte Carlo Casino. Inside, the auditorium is decorated in red and gold; performances range from Azerbaijani national mughams to European symphonic concerts.
Even if you don't go to a performance, the building is worth a look from the outside and the adjacent Philharmonic Gardens are an easy place to break a walk between the Old City and the boulevard. Programmes are posted at the box office and online; tickets are very cheap by international standards.
