A 16-acre water garden 15 km north of Dinant, created in the mid-18th century by Charles-Alexis de Montpellier in a single sustained burst of inspiration after a Grand Tour through France, Italy, and England. The gardens combine French formal terraces and parterres, Italian water features, and English-style romantic groves — and every fountain, jet, and cascade runs on water pressure alone, with no pumps.
The Château d'Annevoie sits at one end and is visited as part of the same ticket. The gardens are at their best in early summer when the flowers are out but the trees are still in fresh leaf. Allow a full half day. Closed November to March; the rest of the year open daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
