The Kathe Kollwitz Museum focuses on one of Germanys most humane and unflinching artists. Kollwitzs prints, drawings, and sculpture return again and again to grief, poverty, war, mothers, workers, and the cost of political violence.
It is a focused museum rather than a broad survey, and that concentration is its strength. Allow time to look closely: the work is dark, direct, and far more memorable than the shopping streets around Neumarkt might suggest.
