Neu St. Heribert

Deutz church facing Cologne's old town, with a copper dome and links to Saint Heribert.

Neu St. Heribert stands in Deutz, on the east bank of the Rhine, where Cologne's skyline is seen rather than occupied. Its dome and church front add a worthwhile stop to a walk across the river, especially for travellers already exploring the Deutz side after the Hohenzollern Bridge.

The church is not as essential as the cathedral or the Romanesque churches in the old town, but it gives Deutz some architectural weight of its own. Step inside if open, then continue toward the riverfront for one of the city's better views back to the centre.
