Nea Kameni is the dark volcanic island in the middle of Santorini's caldera. It is the visible summit of the active volcano, with bare lava, sulphur vents, and a short rough trail up to the crater area.
Most visitors arrive by boat from Fira's old port or Athinios as part of a caldera trip. Bring water, sun protection, and solid shoes, since the island has little shade and the ground is uneven.
