The Umbrellas

Thessaloniki's most photographed spot — a sea of coloured umbrellas on the waterfront

A pergola structure along the seafront promenade near the Concert Hall, strung with hundreds of coloured umbrellas creating a canopy of shade and colour over the waterside path. It sounds simple and is in fact simple, but it has become one of the most photographed spots in Thessaloniki — people pose under it at all hours, and the light through the umbrellas at midday is genuinely beautiful.

It is best visited in the early evening, when the colours are warm and the waterfront is filling up for the sunset walk. The installation sits a short walk west from the White Tower, between the Concert Hall and the Thermaikos promenade.
