This neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque terrace on Castle Hill was built in the early 1900s as a viewing platform, not a fortification — the name honours the guild of fishermen who defended this stretch of wall in the Middle Ages. The seven turrets represent the seven Magyar tribes. The panorama over the Danube and Parliament is Budapest's most photographed view. Go early morning to beat the crowds; the upper terrace charges a small fee in summer but the lower level is always free.
