Museo d'Arte Moderna Vittoria Colonna

The Museo d'Arte Moderna Vittoria Colonna, named after the 16th-century noblewoman and poet who was born in Marino near Rome and had connections to Abruzzo, is Pescara's principal modern art gallery. The collection focuses on 20th-century Italian art and includes works by regional Abruzzese artists alongside pieces by figures of national significance. It is housed in the northern part of the city, away from the main tourist circuit, and receives fewer visitors than its quality warrants.

The museum has a particular strength in post-war Italian painting and is one of the better places in the region to see work by Abruzzese artists who participated in major Italian movements — abstract expressionism, Arte Povera, and the various strands of Italian conceptualism — without the name recognition of their Milanese or Roman counterparts. Admission is modest and the gallery is rarely crowded.
