Fondazione Querini Stampalia is a house museum, library, and gallery in the former residence of the Querini Stampalia family. The rooms hold paintings, furniture, books, and domestic objects that make Venetian aristocratic life feel less abstract than it does in the city's grander palaces.
The collection includes works by Bellini, Palma, Ricci, Tiepolo, and Longhi, but the real pleasure is the setting: rooms that still feel lived in, with a quieter mood than the big-ticket museums around San Marco. It is a good Castello stop when the crowds around the basilica are too much.
