Napoleon's Hill

Steep Kaunas hillfort traditionally linked to Napoleon's 1812 crossing of the Nemunas.

Napoleon's Hill is a green hillfort above the Nemunas, best known for the local tradition that Napoleon watched his army cross the river from here in 1812. Whether you come for the story or the view, it is one of the more atmospheric high points around Kaunas.

The climb is short but steep, and the reward is a broad look over the river bends and southern edge of the city. It works well as a small detour for travellers interested in Kaunas beyond the old town: part landscape, part military memory, part local legend.
