Ladies Beach

Ladies Beach — Ženska Plaža in Serbian, Plazhi i Grave in Albanian — is a small beach just south of the old town that has been a women-only beach for decades. The tradition dates back to the period when conservative Muslim Albanian families allowed women to swim only if separated from men. Today the rules are somewhat relaxed, but the beach retains its women-only character and is enforced by attendants during summer.

It is a sandy beach with sun loungers and facilities, quieter and more sheltered than the main town beach. Non-Muslim visitors are generally welcome, and the separation makes it a popular choice for women travelling alone who want a calm, harassment-free swimming environment.
