Sailors' Mosque

The Sailors' Mosque is an unusual landmark in Ulcinj: it once served as a lighthouse as well as a place of worship, its minaret doubling as a navigational marker for ships approaching the coast. The building dates from the Ottoman era and reflects the close connection between the town and the sea — Ulcinj was a significant port as well as, at various points in its history, a pirate base.

The mosque stands near the harbour and is one of the more historically interesting of Ulcinj's six mosques. It is an active place of worship but worth seeing from the outside for its distinctive maritime history.
