Stryn is both a village and a wider Nordfjord district, set where western Norway's fjords push inland towards high mountains and glacier country. The village itself is small, but the surrounding valleys are strong enough to carry a spare day or several: lakes, steep roads, summer snow, and glacier arms dropping from Jostedalsbreen.
The area works because the contrasts are close together. From Stryn you can drive towards Oppstrynsvatnet and the old mountain road, swing west to Loen Skylift, or continue to Olden for Briksdalsbreen, one of Norway's best-known glacier walks.
This is not a museum town. It is a place for weather, water, and scale. If clouds lift, the day can be spectacular; if they sit low, the valley roads, waterfalls, and glacier lakes still give you a reason to keep moving.
