A 150-year-old subtropical garden on the northern edge of the city, laid out in the 1850s by an Anglo-Spanish couple — Amalia Heredia Livermore and Jorge Loring — who imported plants from across the world. The collection runs to giant ficus, towering araucarias, bamboos from China, and palm groves; the centrepiece is an enormous wisteria pergola that flowers spectacularly in spring. Bus 91 from the Alameda Principal connects to the gardens.
