Opened in 2003 in the 16th-century Palacio de Buenavista, this is the city's apology to its most famous son for ignoring him for most of the 20th century. The collection — around 200 works — was donated by Picasso's daughter-in-law and grandson and spans every period of his career, from early academic drawings to late ceramics.
It is a manageable museum: two unhurried hours rather than a whole day. Combine it with a stop at the Casa Natal on Plaza de la Merced, the apartment where Picasso was born in 1881 and lived for the first ten years of his life.
