Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a handsome old port town on the Costa Brava, midway between Barcelona and the French border. It has a more lived-in feel than some of its glitzier neighbours — the economy was built on cork and fishing before tourism arrived, and the old town still has working-harbour character.
The seafront promenade is pleasant, the Romanesque monastery of Sant Feliu anchors the town centre, and the coastal path to Tossa de Mar is one of the best walks on the Costa Brava. The neighbouring headland of S'Agaró has a fine beach and some striking early-20th-century architecture.
