The Plaine Morte plateau sits at 3,000 metres and is the high point of the Crans-Montana ski area. In winter it provides glacier skiing and a reliable snowpack from late November through April. In summer the cable car still runs, and the walk across the plateau is a strange, otherworldly experience — a flat white desert above the clouds. On a clear day the views stretch from Mont Blanc to the Bernese Oberland.
