Olesko Castle is one of the classic day trips from Lviv, a compact hilltop fortress east of the city and a key stop on the region's “Golden Horseshoe” castle route. Its rounded silhouette, park setting, and museum interiors make it more visitor-ready than many Ukrainian castle ruins, and it is closely associated with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth period.
The castle is also known as the birthplace of King John III Sobieski, which gives it a historical weight beyond its size. Inside, collections from the Lviv National Art Gallery fill rooms with icons, sculpture, furniture, and period art. It is best visited by car or organized tour, often combined with Pidhirtsi and Zolochiv.
