Charles Dickens' Birthplace

Modest Georgian house where Dickens was born in 1812

Address 393 Old Commercial Road

The modest Georgian terraced house where Charles Dickens was born in February 1812 to a junior clerk in the Royal Navy Pay Office. The family moved on after a few months, but the rooms have been furnished in early-19th-century style and the small museum holds a collection of Dickens memorabilia. A short walk north of the Historic Dockyard.
