Crissy Field

Restored Presidio waterfront with Golden Gate Bridge views and tidal marsh

Address 1199 E Beach, Presidio

Crissy Field is a stretch of restored waterfront in the Presidio that offers some of the best Golden Gate Bridge views in the city. Once a military airfield, the 130-acre site was transformed in 2001 after volunteers removed 87,000 tons of hazardous fill and replanted 100,000 native plants. The result is a tidal marsh, sand dunes, and a wide promenade that connects to Fort Point at the bridge's southern anchor.

It is a beautiful walk or bike ride, popular with joggers, dog walkers, and kite flyers. The Warming Hut cafe at the western end serves coffee and snacks with views of the bridge. On clear days, the path from here to Fort Point and across to the bridge itself makes for one of the great urban walks in America.
