Lake of the Isles is the quietest of Minneapolis' Chain of Lakes, ringed by handsome houses, walking paths, and small wooded islands kept as bird sanctuaries. In winter the city grooms part of the lake for skating, with a warming house nearby, while the rest of the year it is best for a relaxed walk or bike ride rather than swimming.
