The Fountain of Eternal Life is a 35-foot bronze and granite memorial on the Mall, sculpted by Marshall Fredericks and dedicated in 1964. A single male figure rises from a circle of flames, ringed by four sphinxes that face the cardinal directions, in a composition that the artist described as "Peace Arising from the Flames of War."
The fountain commemorates Cleveland's dead from the Second World War, Korea, and (added later) Vietnam. Names of the dead are inscribed in the surrounding walls. It is the centrepiece of the downtown Mall and one of Cleveland's most striking public sculptures.
Open at all hours; admission free.
